ROOF OPTIONS
This type of roofing system consists of panels which interlock. The outer metal skins of the panel serve to cover the insulation, which is typically Polystyrene or a similar material. This panel design is extremely energy efficient and provides protection from the sun's heat. Panels are coated with high quality baked enamel for a long-lasting, low maintenance finish.
This roofing system is very low maintenance and an ideal solution for basic protection from the elements. The panels are typically constructed of high grade aluminum, requiring an occassional pressure wash to rinse off dirt and debris. The metal is coated with a virtually maintenance-free baked enamel finish.
The conventional roof system is built to match and blend into the architecture of your existing roof and will be constructed in a similar fashion. Conventional roof systems are framed with roof trusses or wooden beams. After the roof is framed, plywood sheathing is attached, and then the shingles or an alternative roofing finish is attached. This roof will be more of an investment and may take a little longer to construct.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
While your sunroom roof will either be glass or a more conventional roofing material such as wood, aluminum or steel, there are several key areas in which you must do some due diligence in order to guarantee that you get a high quality roof. Make sure you cover each of these concerns with your potential contractor before signing.
CONVENTIONAL ROOFING CONSIDERATIONS
- Make sure that your contractor has experience working with the roofing material he intends to use on your enclosure. Installation of your roof is as important as the material used. A poor installation can lead to problems with leaks.
- Make sure that there is a clearly detailed warranty on the construction of the roof. If the warranty is part of the general enclosure warranty make sure that the roof is specifically mentioned in the wording of the warranty.
- The amount and quality of the insulation used is very important. Make sure that you discuss insulation needs with your contractor.
- Ask your contractor about gutters. Make sure the contractor addresses the flow of rainwater off of the roof.
