FOUNDATION OPTIONSCONCRETE SLAB NEWA traditional and cost effective foundation is a concrete slab, often referred to as
"slab on grade". This type of foundation is for heavy use areas and formal designs. The concrete slab requires minimal
excavation to prepare the ground and the slab is typically 4" thick or greater. Wooden forms are used to define the
slabs shape and then removed once the concrete sets.
CONCRETE SLAB NEWA wood deck foundation for your project is another alternative choice. This foundation is built primarily with high grade lumber, which should be resistant to moisture and insects. Pressure treated lumber is the most economical and efficient. The main components of a wooden deck foundation include footer posts, beams, (to form the base) and decking material. The deck material can be deck boards (similar to 2 x 4's) or exterior grade plywood, depending on your final flooring choice for the room. ADDITIONAL FOUNDATION INFORMATIONMake sure that your design plans for the foundation you choose comply with all of the local building
codes, including setbacks, height restrictions, etc.
